Five Star Lake

The four-acre Five Star Lake is fully stocked with bass, bluegill and other fish. A beautiful, large fountain is lit at night and provides soothing ambient water sounds for most of the cabins. The lake also has a lighted half-mile groomed trail around it for walking or running, as well as a large dock for swimming and other activities.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Choose from canoes, paddleboats, or sit-on-top kayaks and paddle around the lake. Kids will enjoy paddling under the 20-foot fountain to stay cool in the summertime. In addition, Five Star Retreat is only a short drive from canoe rental facilities on the Piney, Harpeth, Buffalo, and Duck rivers.

Big Spring Creek

Big Spring Creek stays clear and cool throughout the year and is popular with our guests particularly in the summer, when they enjoy swimming in one of several nice swimming holes. Adventurous folks enjoy diving from the rocks adjacent to the holes, or swinging from a rope swing. You may also enjoy fly-fishing for trout and bass in some of the pools. In addition, two crystal-clear year round branches also flow into Big Spring Creek on the property.

Hunting, Fishing, and Shooting

Each hunting season, we offer the Lodge as a "home base" for hunters hunting deer and turkey in various parts of Hickman County. (Hunting at the Retreat is invitation only. No regular guests may hunt without prior approval by the Retreat owner). We also have pistol and rifle ranges (up to 1000 yards). (For safety reasons, all shooting on the property must be approved and scheduled in advance).

Wildlife Watching

Five Star Retreat has an abundance of wildlife that you would expect to see in the area, including deer, turkey, doves, quail, geese, ducks, raccoons, opossums, etc. Several feeders near the cabins attract wildlife at feeding times in the morning and early evening. If you are quiet and watchful, you may also catch a glimpse of one of our big blue herons, barred owls, beavers, groundhogs, or even an occasional bald eagle. So be sure and bring your binoculars when you visit.
